Dulles Metro pile-driving noise to begin

Carrington residents will hear pile-driving on the Dulles Metro extension as soon as Monday, Jan. 3, according to Marcia McAllister of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The work will be done in the median of the Dulles Toll Road and airport access highway just west of Route 7, to the rear of 1446-1478 Carrington Ridge Lane. Large steel beams will be pounded into the ground to support concrete structures that will carry the Metrorail line.

Work will be done on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Occasional Saturday work may also be scheduled, McAllister said. Pile-driving is typically done for 15 minutes with 15-minute breaks.

Several hundred pilings will be placed in a process estimated to take three months.
